New Horizons: Career Paths of Doctoral Scientists

Panel Discussion

This event brings together doctoral candidates and postdocs from the University of Bremen and the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg with PhD-trained researchers working in a variety of professional fields, in order to reflect on and discuss career paths, decisions, and key competencies.

The invited speakers will begin by presenting their personal career trajectories and sharing decisive moments, challenges, and success factors from their journeys beyond academia. They will also provide insights into their current areas of work and illustrate which strengths and competencies PhD holders can contribute to different professional fields. On the panel—and later together with the audience—they will address questions such as:

  • What do the various roles outside academia actually look like in practice?
  • Which competencies developed during the doctoral or postdoctoral phase are particularly helpful?
  • Which experiences and skills are worthwhile to acquire in addition to the doctorate?
  • Which networks play an important role in the different professional fields?

Look forward to fascinating insights, honest experiences, and inspiring conversations about the diverse career paths of PhD-trained researchers.
